In that tiny 200-square-foot space, Milani decorated walls, hung her friend’s paintings for background (as well as sale), and displayed eye-popping pottery – including the polka dotted Mona and the black-and-white op artish Verona. The 2003 show was a smash, resulting in orders way too numerous to fill. “I was in the studio day and night until those orders were shipped,” says Milani. Within a few months, the neophyte exec realized she would have to outsource production if Milani Home was going to be a viable operation.
